On of my Capuchin friends called this morning. He was waiting for his bishop. They have a problem up there in "Siberia." Rome is sometimes very removed from our situation in the U.S. The Catholic churches in Italy and Germany get support from the government. Not here. How can you collect money from poor people and keep a church open without funds from outside? Besides if a bishop here closes a church and then Rome interferes what does that say about self-government? I am glad I was not the bishop in this case. I would have said to Rome: Take this job and sh... it.
